The Boiler Upgrade Scheme, explained
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme gives up to £7,500 off an air source or ground source heat pump in England and Wales. Your MCS-certified installer applies for it, and the grant comes straight off your bill.
What you get
Up to £7,500 off an air source or ground source heat pump. The grant is paid to your installer, so you pay the lower price.
Who can apply
Homeowners in England and Wales replacing fossil fuel heating, such as a gas or oil boiler. Your installer must be MCS-certified and will check your eligibility. Details can change, so check the latest rules on GOV.UK.
In Scotland
The scheme doesn't cover Scotland. Home Energy Scotland offers its own grants and interest-free loans instead.
How it works
You get quotes, choose an installer, and they apply for the grant. Once it's approved, they fit the heat pump and the grant is taken off what you pay.
Getting quotes
Compare at least three quotes. A good installer will do a heat loss survey of your home first, so the heat pump is the right size.
